Cell Phone Rules & One Pot Chicken Fajita Pasta

There are a lot of pros and cons about social media; it’s just how you choose to handle it and how you have to be prepared for the negatives as well.

Both of the Girls have “phones”. They are my old phones. They don’t have data and they are for game/google use around the house. However, HBear asked to join Instagram. Actually, one of her friends asked me to be friends on Instagram and Ninja and I realized we are THERE. So, we have slowly but surely started the social media thing. There have been a few stumbles but we feel this is the best time to teach her… while she still somewhat listens 😂. We have a few rules that we have come up with along our journey. Our biggest rule is to NEVER write something you wouldn’t say to someone’s face. Respect yourself and your friends. We have also made the rule that we don’t take any embarrassing pictures of yourself, friends or our sister 😂 and post them on social media. No naked pictures!

I have been looking for social media rules online and I saw this.
This is everything.

Janell Hoffman, wrote these [slightly edited] rules for her 13 year old son’s Christmas present… his 1st iPhone:

1. It is my phone. I bought it. I pay for it. I am loaning it to you. Aren’t I the greatest?

2. I will always know the password.

3. If it rings, answer it. It is a phone. Say hello, use your manners. Do not ever ignore a phone call if the screen reads “Mom” or “Dad”. Not ever.

4. Hand the phone to one of your parents promptly at 7:30pm every school night & every weekend night at 9:00pm. It will be shut off for the night and turned on again at 7:30am. If you would not make a call to someone’s land line, wherein their parents may answer first, then do not call or text. Listen to those instincts and respect other families like we would like to be respected.

5. It does not go to school with you. Have a conversation with the people you text in person. It’s a life skill.

6. If it falls into the toilet, smashes on the ground, or vanishes into thin air, you are responsible for the replacement costs or repairs.

7. Do not use this technology to lie, fool, or deceive another human being. Do not involve yourself in conversations that are hurtful to others. Be a good friend first or stay the hell out of the crossfire.

8 & 9. Do not text, email, or say anything through this device you would not say in person.

10. No porn.

11. Turn it off, silence it, put it away in public. Especially in a restaurant, at the movies, or while speaking with another human being. You are not a rude person; do not allow the iPhone to change that.

12. Do not send or receive pictures of your private parts or anyone else’s private parts. Don’t laugh. Someday you will be tempted to do this despite your high intelligence. It is risky and could ruin your teenage/college/adult life. It is always a bad idea. Cyberspace is vast and more powerful than you. And it is hard to make anything of this magnitude disappear — including a bad reputation.

13. Leave your phone home sometimes and feel safe and secure in that decision. It is not alive or an extension of you. Learn to live without it. Be bigger and more powerful than FOMO — fear of missing out.

14. Download music that is new or classic or different than the millions of your peers that listen to the same exact stuff. Your generation has access to music like never before in history. Take advantage of that gift. Expand your horizons.

15. Play a game with words or puzzles or brain teasers every now and then.

16. Keep your eyes up. See the world happening around you. Stare out a window. Listen to the birds. Take a walk. Talk to a stranger. Wonder without Googling.

17. You will mess up. I will take away your phone. We will sit down and talk about it. We will start over again. You & I, we are always learning. I am on your team. We are in this together.

Love, Mom and Dad
Thank you Janell Hoffman 💛!

It was such a SLOW week that we had absolutely nothing to discuss on HWYWH soooo a while back, friends of ours went to the Taggart & Torrens Podcast touring show and got us a signed copy of their book Canadianity! This week we discussed Jeremy Taggart & Jonathan Torrens’s Awesome book, Candianity! Check out Episode #56: A Candianity Tour!

Do you love pasta? Do you love Mexican? Do you love easy 1 pot recipes? So do I! Last week we tried this easy 1 pot fajita recipe and it was damn good! The only thing we would change is, we would add cilantro (because we are HUGE cilantro freaks) and we would add a can of corn. We are also big time corn freaks and everything tastes better with corn 😉

One Pot Chicken Fajita Pasta

Adapted from The Chunky Chef
NUTRITION: 277 calories/serving

3 tablespoons oil, divided
4 chicken breasts, cut into 1/2 – 1 inch pieces
1 package fajita seasoning
1 large yellow onion, diced
2 bell peppers, sliced into strips
5 cloves garlic, pressed
2 cups chicken stock
1/2 cup cream
10 oz can diced tomatoes
1 bag dried penne pasta
3 green onions, chopped

Add 1 1/2 tablespoons oil to dutch oven and heat over med/high heat. Add chicken, sprinkle with half of the fajita seasoning and cook about 2 minutes. Turn chicken pieces over and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes. Remove chicken to a plate and set aside.

Add remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons oil to dutch oven and add in onions and peppers and remaining fajita seasoning. Cook, stirring occasionally, about 4-5 minutes, until softened. Add garlic, stir, and cook about 30 seconds, then remove vegetable mixture to the plate with the chicken and set aside.

Pour in chicken stock, cream, diced tomatoes, pasta, and season with salt and black pepper. Loosen the browned bits from the bottom of the skillet and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to a low boil, cover, and cook about 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.

After 12 minutes, most of the cooking liquid should be absorbed. If it’s not, cook another 3-5 minutes. Return the chicken and vegetables to the pot and stir to heat through.

Serve garnished with green onions.

Second last week of HBear’s curling lessons and she is all in! She is loving curling! Her coach said she is a natural 😊.

SBean was sick this week. She pushed high fevers and basically laid in bed watching TV and drinking juice for 8 days. While she was laying down I had a lot of indoor time. So I got out the 5T bins and started getting ready for spring!

HBear enjoyed the spring weather at her KBesty’s house and had a double sleepover! She came home a teenager 🙄😂.

This past weekend was my MBesty’s 30th birthday! She is FINALLY starting to catch up to me lol. This year she had a paint party at her house! She asked me to bring Prime Rib stuffed Yorkshires with Gravy. They were a hit!

On Sunday, HBear and I went to a local fundraiser for a young boy that has been diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. The whole community came out and I think a lot of money was raised! They had entertainment, a bake sale, art stations, a wishing well of hope, and a great auction! I won a MAGNUM of Hester Creek Cab Franc!!!! YES! It was a gorgeous day so HBear and I enjoyed it with a little walk on the beach!

The 1 on the right is a regular size bottle!!!

After the fundraiser we went to my InLaws for a delicious dinner!

As Sunday is always the last day of the week for my hockey pool, I was super happy to learn that I had not only made the playoffs in The 4th Line Podcast Hockey Pool, but I had won my 1st round and now was headed to the SemiFinals!!!!

Monday the sun was out and SBean FINALLY broke her fever! She was running around playing play-doh, Lego and barbies out on the deck! I am so happy to see the sun AND to see my baby smiling and healthy again ☀️💕.
