Christmas Marshmallow Pops & Xmas Sugar Cookies

It’s a marshmallow world in the winter

When the snow comes to cover the ground

It’s time for play, it’s a whipped cream day
I wait for it the whole year round

7 years ago when we started making crafts for HBear’s classmates at all the major holidays, I was a good Mom and picked things that had zero sugar. We did fruit, cheese strings, and Non-edible treats. Over the years I have widened the idea pool 😂. This year, while not the healthiest treat around 🙄 it was certainly the most fun to make! We made jumbo marshmallow pops dipped in chocolate and peppermint candy canes!

Last week we made testers and the kids absolutely loved them! We made an assembly line and HBear dipped the marshmallows into the melted chocolate chips, passed them to SBean to dip into crushed candycanes and after they cooled, Ninja bagged them and tagged them!

They taste incredible and look magical! While they are pure sugar 😆 I think the kid’s classmates will enjoy them!

This week on How Was Your Week, Honey? Ep. 97 Maybe I’ll Go Full Skank, we sip on Xmas Chocotinis as we discuss social anxiety, the new build, Hallmark Xmas movie drinking games, another boudoir photoshoot, getting caught in the act & A Charlie Brown Christmas! Check it out HERE!

This week we did a ton of fun festive activities! One activity that I am never a fan of is, baking sugar cookies. It takes so long! First you have to make the dough, then chill the dough, then roll the dough, then cut the dough out, then bake the dough, and THEN decorate! It’s all so exhausting! The biggest problem is… What recipe to use? When you go on Pinterest every single one of them say “the best cookie ever” 🙄 Sugar cookies are The Bachelor of the baking world 😆

This year was our easiest and most fun sugar cookie experience yet!

Why?

We used my Mother-in-Law’s tried, tested and true sugar cookie recipe! I hate to sound redundant but these cookies… Really ARE the best! I also split it up throughout the day, in the morning SBean and I made the dough, then we went out and did a few things and then HBear and I came back and rolled the dough out. When Ninja and SBean got home we all sat around and decorated! They look great, we had the best time making them, and they taste absolutely delicious!

My MIL’s Best Sugar Cookies Ever

1 1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg yolk slighly beaten
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Stir flour, baking powder and salt together.

Cream butter; add sugar gradually, beating between additions. Add egg yolk; mix well.

Add dry ingredients alternately with milk; add vanilla.

Cover and chill dough thoroughly.

Roll 1/4″ thick on lightly floured board; cut with cookie cutters.

Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in a moderate oven (375′) 8 to 10 minutes.

Icing

1 cup icing sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
milk

Mix icing sugar, butter and vanilla. Add milk tablespoon at a time until you get the consistency you want. I tripled the recipe to make 6 different colours. I use Wilton gel colouring to get the most vibrant colours!

As I said above, this week we did a lot of festive Christmas activities! Ninja and I started our weekend with a Holly Jolly drinking game 😂. I absolutely love Hallmark Christmas movies! Ninja… Not so much LOL he is a bit of a cynic and usually rolls his eyes at all the tropes that I love so much. This year to get him to watch a romantic Xmas movie with me, Mingle all the Way, I designed a Hallmark Christmas movie drinking game! We cracked open a few of his craft beers from his “Dadvent” calendar that had been piling up and laughed our butts off!

HBear was lucky enough to be invited to do some more carolling this weekend at a nearby retirement home. While Ninja and Dad took SBean to see the new Wreck-It Ralph, HBear and I brought joy to a group of senior citizens 💛 I love their dance studio for being involved with such amazing activities.

When we all got home we decorated our sugar cookies!

We went out for dinner at our favourite local restaurant, Craft Corner Kitchen and also participated in the Peach City Radio Christmas get together! It was so nice to meet Ninja’s new coworkers, spend a nice dinner with the family, and let Dad open up a present he will definitely be needing when he goes to Cochrane and Winnipeg next week 😜💛.

On Sunday we made the marshmallow pops and then took a breather for some quiet reading before the Girls went to Grandma and Grandpa’s for their annual gingerbread house making date! After they built their houses they went out for dinner at Boston Pizza and Ninja, Dad and I went out for an adult dinner at The Local on Lakeshore in Summerland. It was absolutely phenomenal! Great appetizers, delicious bacon Caesars, a fabulous bottle of wine, and 3 completely satisfying entrées that I will be craving for a long time to come!

This week is the last week of school and the Christmas festivities continue! Despite having no snow and double digit temperatures I am completely in the Christmas spirit 🎄❤️. Happy last week before Christmas!!!!
