So we had another first today.
Today HBear was “grounded”
Last night when she went to the Imagination Movers with Dad she pulled a stunt.
I guess there were kids dancing at the front of the stage like a mosh pit almost LOL and HBear asked Papa if she could go down there too and Papa said “no I won’t be able to see you from here”, so she danced on the stairs in the aisle beside the chairs for a while. Then she went down a few stairs and then down to stair or 2 more until she was at the gate and of course the nice person at the gate opens it up for her and she goes running off into the pit.
Apparently she came back and when Papa got mad at her and said don’t do that again she went and did it again. And when the singer jumped off the stage and started leading the kids like the Pied Piper, oh she was a right in there.
If dad wasn’t so scared I would almost laugh but I understand that happening is scary business, when you can’t see your granddaughter in a theater of people anybody could’ve held her hand and walked right out of there! When she got home and I asked her how it went she mumbled some stuff and looked down but for the most part didn’t tell me a word until I asked papa and he said “HBear don’t you have something to tell your mommy.”
So, after the whole explanation I thought about it and I thought taking away her play date which she was so excited about today would be a lesson. If you can’t listen and I can’t trust you when we go out and we are not going out. The whole day she has spent in the backyard and helping me in the kitchen and helping me with some chores but it is not a go out day. Which works well because my cramps are excruciating today 🙁
We did manage to play a little though 🙂
On a more positive note… the strike is tentatively OVER!!!! Hell yeah! Break out the freaking champagne!
So we are in full mode getting ready for school. OK so I’m a pretty prepared person lol so there’s not LOTS to do. I’m not trying to toot my own horn but I see women on facebook complaining that the stores don’t have the lists anymore… ummmm hello, you should have been on top of it and been ready. Don’t blame other people for your procrastination! For shame. OK enough being judgy.
Maybe it’s my cramps but I’m feeling judgy today (btw I love that word judgy my friend Karen who sadly move to Edmonton, I miss you Karen, said it once and I stole it but at least I’m giving her credit lol)
Today I printed up HBear’s lunchbox notes HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE
I also made her chore chart HERE
Tonight we are going to sleep on what we think our chores should be for Grade 1 LOL
So tonight is our first night of having a 20 minute meal 🙂 we are having salmon quinoa and coleslaw!
For the slaw I did a bagged kind AND bottled dressing! Keeping in mind the time challenge 🙂
1 tablespoon grated fresh lemon zest
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup margarine, melted
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 ½ cups uncooked quinoa
with the dressing and toss until it’s evenly coated. Season with salt and pepper and serve.
So because we were in today… HBear and I made the plum jam for this next recipe. However, in keeping with our 20 minute theme you can certainly use any type of plum jam/jelly/preserve you have on hand… or that you bought especially for this awesome recipe! LOL
1 1/2 ounces fresh ginger, peeled
1 1/2 cups roughly chopped plums about 7 plums Combine 1 1/2 tablespoons of water with the ginger and place in a food processor. Blend until smooth. Press through a cheesecloth and collect the juice.
In a large pot combine the reserved juice from the ginger, the plums, and the sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the preserves reach 220F, about 20 minutes.
I just made pretty much enough for dinner tonight but you could make as much as you want by doubling, tripling, or quading the recipe 🙂

Melt margarine over medium heat in a small saucepan. Add ginger (I used the ginger from my jam yes I pressed out most of the ginger juice but I think with the jam having ginger in it that will be a lot of ginger I think will be okay lol) and cook for 1 minute.
Add plum jam and sriracha to saucepan, mixing well with margarine and ginger and cook for 2-3 minutes or until flavors have melded. Remove from heat.
Coat each filet with at least 2 tablespoons of jam mixture
top with a sprinkling of almonds.
Bake in oven for 10-12 minutes. Remove from cedar planks and serve with cilantro leaves.
There is even enough quinoa leftover to add Feta to and have a salad for lunch tomorrow! 5 minutes off your morning right there before work 🙂
So there you go. 20 Minutes and we didn’t sacrifice, health, flavor or quantity! The whole family loved it and had seconds of everything 🙂
