The Cell Phone Contract & Cold Veggie Pizza

New technology is not good or evil in and of itself. It’s all about how people choose to use it.

David Wong

We knew it was going to happen sooner or later. It was inevitable. We live in a time that is different than the time I grew up in.
Not that different though.
When I was in grade 6 I remember racing home from school and running straight to the phone. I would talk to my Bestie until dinner and as soon as dishes were done I would race back to the phone. My parents only got mad when they needed to use the phone themselves 😂.
It wasn’t long before we had a teen line! Do you member when they did teen lines? Double ring meant it was for my brother, my sister, or me!
The problem with that was we still monopolized the phone line so it wasn’t long after we got the teen line that we got our own phone number! 837-1273 😊.

Learning phone etiquette is important. Being able to communicate and contact your friends without going through your Mommy or Daddy is also very important. Next year HBear is in grade 6! Next year? In 2 weeks!!! She will be walking to school. She will be walking to dance class after school. She will need to be able to communicate with us and her friends. I don’t want my phone to be used as the machine that makes play dates anymore 😂.
So the day before we left for Winnipeg, we did it. Ninja picked HBear up from camp and took her to the Telus store to buy her a cell phone 😳.

This is ALL new to us. I mean, I got my 1st smartphone 5 years ago. I didn’t even own a cell phone before HBear was born let alone think about the day I would be giving her access to, well, anything and everything.

Scary.

Also, exciting. She is getting older and she is becoming independent and she is proving to us that she is ready for this enormous amount of freedom. Or at least in time she will. With this amount of power comes rules. I looked online and pulled from different blogs and Mom posts to create an official cell phone contract!

Ninja, HBear and I sat together and we went through EVERY single point. We talked about each rule, we explained etiquette we talked about treating online friends the way we would want to be treated. We talked about being present and putting our phones away when we are doing things with others and we talked about the repercussions of not following the rules.

This is all new to us. We are trying our best. We are giving her the benefit of the doubt and we hope that she shows us that we can trust her.

I would love to hear how others are handling this kind of situation! Let me know!

While I was in Winnipeg we went to a pool part at some of my bestest friends from elementary school’s house. WpgBesty brought this delicious appetizer that EVERYONE gobbled up! It was refreshing, light and perfect on a hot day! It was also the easiest thing to make… ever!

During Peachfest my SIL and her BF and their kids were visiting! My Inlaws had a BBQ with ALL of us and I was so excited to bring this appie to munch on throughout the hot afternoon! The Girl’s begged for it in their camp lunch the next day, bonus!

Cold Veggie Pizza

1 package cream cheese (room temperature)
1 tub sour cream
1 package ranch dressing mix
6 nan bread or flatbread
1/2 bag riced veggies
4 green onions, chopped
1 cup shredded cheese
1 bell pepper, chopped into small pieces
20 cherry tomatoes, quartered

Mix first 3 ingredients in your mixer until smooth.

Starting from the middle of each nan bread, spread cream cheese mixture around, leaving a little edge (like a pizza).

Divide cheese evenly among breads. On 3 of the “pizzas” sprinkle the riced veggies evenly and then top with half the green onions.

Divide  the rest of the cheese evenly among the last 3 breads. Sprinkle the “pizzas”with the bell peppers evenly and then top with tomatoes and the rest of the green onions.

Cut them into triangles and eat… just like a pizza!

The summer has been FLYING by! The Girls have been so busy with visitors, Peachfest and camps!

HBear did an Adventure Camp with Hoodoo Adventures and she loved kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, dragonboat racing and mountain climbing at the bluffs!

SBean enjoyed playing with her PSBesty and her KBesty at dance/Craft camp Hawaiian Hubabaloo.

In between working and playing with my family, I have tried to go out for lunch/dinner/drinks with my girlfriends! I was lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful lunch with my Gr2Besty at the new coffeeshop, Wayne and Freda, it was delicious!

Ninja and I took the Girls up to Chute Lake for the day to explore and to check out all the renovations the new owners have made to the beautiful resort.

We had dinner at Patio Burger and then hit the beach for an evening stroll and swim!

I took some time out for some self care and Ninja and I went out for Date Night! We toured a few wineries, sampled some craft beer and then met my SIL and her boyfriend at The Dream Cafe to watch a Winnipeg brass band called The Dirty Catfish Brass Band. They were SO good! It was a fantastic night!

While we were out Dad and J watched the Girls! They went to the beach and had a hotdog and marshmallow roast!

The next day SBean wasn’t feeling great so she and I stayed home and relaxed while Ninja met his Sis and family at the Wibit and had a fun day out on the water!

Fire season was pretty tame this year, thank gawd! We had 1 major fire nearby in Gallagher Lake but our team of fire and rescue were on it and with the luck of weather on their side, it was under control and we didn’t lose any lives  or structures.

We also had dance rehearsal and dentists appointments!

My BeaumontCousin came into town with her family and we spent some wonderful time together, first stop, Tickleberry’s!

We took in as much Peachfest as we could! We enjoyed the Snowbirds, the SkyHawks, the midway, the Black Widow Rope Spinners, The Crash Test Dummies, Barney Bentall, and motocross. HBear also performed twice with her Balance Dance Family! It was an amazing week!

HBear performed at the KidsZone and then we took in some of the attractions! After dance we went to Grandma and Grandpa’s for a quick dip and then BCousin and family came over for a yummy pasta dinner! Check out my recipe HERE!

August 9 was our 9 year anniversary! I started the day by driving to Winfield and having lunch with my YoungestCousin and her BF! It was a quick lunch because they were in town for his weightlifting competition but it was so wonderful to see her! When I got home I got ready and Ninja and I took SBean to Bogners with us for our Anniversary Dinner while Dad took HBear to Peachfest for their annual Date night watching the bands! Bogners 5-course BBQ dinner was amazeballs! The food is locally sourced and chef prepared all for $35/each!!!!

HBear finished our Peachfest week with another performance, this time on the main stage! They did so well!!! After the show we had dinner at my InLaws!

The Girls have gone to birthday parties at Balance, the Wit and at Locolanding!

While the Girls were at birthday parties, Ninja and I enjoyed dinner at 1 of our favourite places, Craft Corner Kitchen!

This past week SBean enjoyed Pottery Camp and she was lucky enough to help out in her teacher’s garden and chicken coop!

HBear enjoyed her week at Get Bent Dance Studio learning about belly dancing and Bhangra. They performed 2 shows for the elderly. It was so beautiful!

The Girls went for a sleepover and movie with JQ so Ninja and I went to The Barking Parrot to see our friend’s band, Three Scotch In, play. We also ran into GR2Besty and her husband! It was such a nice surprise and lovely evening.

This past weekend we enjoyed a delicious BBQ dinner at my InLaws to say goodbye to JQ and my SIL. It was sad to say goodbye but it was a super nice visit.

Our last visitors have left. The weather is starting to cool off. The camps are all over and school supplies have been bought. We are going to enjoy these last 2 weeks of school, I hope you all do too!
