Pink, pink, pink. More than anything, Pinkalicious loves pink, especially pink cupcakes. Her parents warn her not to eat too many of them, but when Pinkalicious does . . . she turns pink! – Pinkalicious

SydneyBean is sleeping in a beautiful handmade, by my incredibly talented father-in-law, bassinet… beside our bed. It has been 14 weeks.

I love this bassinet  For Xmas Ninja bought me engraved plaques that say both the kids names and when they slept in it. It will be passed to their cousins to use and hopefully to their children too. It even rocks! Notice the Oilers mobile LOL

At some point she needs to go into her beautiful crib. We live in a 2 bedroom house, where are we going to put her? You would think that we would have thought of this before… but that is an entirely different tale J
So 1 night while SydneyBean was still in my belly and called Baby Park I was laying in bed worrying about this exact problem. I thought to myself OMG we need to stack kids on top of each other! Hmmmm not a bad idea actually.
The next morning I got up and told Mom, Dad and Ninja that we needed to build a loft bed that had a fence and a staircase rather than a ladder that was high enough to fit the BIG beautiful crib underneath it!

Our beautiful crib… it’s HUGE lol
My talented brother-in-law and my sister who live in Calgary came for Xmas and brought wood. For her “baby gift” he is going to build my idea!!! They will be here in April so we are getting ready.
When HoneyBear was born Tinkerbell had not yet come out. I thought fairies would be a perfect touch for the nursery. I couldn’t even find Fairy stuff at that time! My sister who was living in South Korea brought decals back with her and we collected what we could when we found it. I picked plum and sunshine yellow for the room. It was so pretty. I was certainly NOT picking pink and princesses!!! I made her lamp with Dollar Store flowers and a lamp I found and painted from Value Village.

I hot glued each petal in layers, it is very pretty!
My mother-in-law sewed a beautiful lavender set for the crib and the glider and I loved that room. We moved 9 months later.

The fabric in the nursery
When we got here to my parent’s house we were fortunate enough that my mom and I have VERY similar tastes as HoneyBear’s room was a bit darker but purple and yellow none the less.

A split screen of what it looked like before

Seriously LOVE split screen!
Over the years we have added stuff but we have kept the fairies and purple with yellow. Since we are doing this big change and bringing SydneyBean into HoneyBear’s space we thought a whole new look was in order.
That brings us to the past week of Pink Hell.
PINKALICIOUS! Has anyone read the series written by Elizabeth Kann?

If you have a 4 year old daughter like me, you certainly have. Everything is pinakalicious delicious right now JSo when I asked HoneyBear what color she would like to paint her room I got a very LOUD… PINK!!!
Of course we all head out to the paint store where she picked exactly that, a very LOUD PINK! I was pushing for a very pretty linen color with accents of pink. She looked at me like I was cray-cray, “what is an accent color Mommy?”, ummm yeah so we settled on a soft pink called Fuzzy Slippers.
First we emptied the room.

Starting the process
Then I washed all the walls
While SydneyBean screamed in the wrap… SO much fun!
And filled the holes

Then Dad did the ceiling.
Ninja did the primer and the 1st coat. I didn’t get pictures of them actually doing this because I took the girls to Kelowna to shop for perfectly pretty accessories.
1st coat looked kinda sucky
The next day was 2nd coat and closet.

Second coat looks great!
Yesterday Ninja put up another closet bar and shelves so they can share the closet.

Now HoneyBear can pick out her own clothes, this should  make for a few interesting blog topics 🙂
The corner shelf will go up tomorrow
These are the boxes I made for socks and undies. They are wallpapered cereal boxes 🙂
All in all it has gone rather smoothly… except when I picked up HoneyBear from school yesterday. “Mommy I want to go home and I hope everything is back where it used to be.” BIG SIGH.
So when we got home I asked her to help move stuff around. Uncle Seb won’t be building the bed for a month or so, so I thought let’s move the bed where it WILL be now so when she is all of a sudden lifted 5 feet in the air, we only have THAT to deal with! HoneyBear does not like change. I explained that on the other side of the room she would only dream of cupcakes, frosting and sprinkles. She fell for it and has been ok with the changes since J

A different perspective
Now we are just working on the finishing touches and the decorating before the bed gets made. I think it is going to look PINKALICIOUS!

Now dinner…

Tomato-Basil Risotto
Adapted from Iowa GirlEats

3 cups chicken broth
1 Tablespoon butter
½ big sweet onion, diced
2 garlic clove, pressed
salt & pepper
1 cup arborio rice
1/4 cup dry white wine
5 small vine-ripened tomatoes, seeded & chopped
handful torn basil
1/4 cup feta cheese
Bring broth to a boil in a small saucepan. Reduce heat to low and keep hot.

In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat then add onion, season with salt & pepper, and then saute until translucent. Add garlic then saute for 30 more seconds.

Add rice then stir to coat in butter. Add wine then stir until nearly absorbed by rice. Add a ladle of broth then stir continuously until broth is absorbed. Continue adding broth, a ladle at a time, stirring until nearly absorbed before adding more.

We had extra tomatoes from the Caprese salad we had the other night
When there’s 1/4 of the broth remaining, add tomatoes then continue stirring. Add the basil with the last broth addition then continue stirring. Stir in cheese.

This was super good!

The risotto was thick and creamy. I didn’t season with a lot of salt because I used Feta instead of the regular Parmesan  Feta is saltier. Good decision because it was very good. We had it with BBQ chicken and steamed broccoli and carrots!
