The Ultimate Blog Party is just that — the ultimate place to party and meet new friends, (but no babysitters, airplanes, or tickets necessary.) – 5 Minutes for Mom

I am going to be honest, I have trouble making new friends. LOL
Seriously, I have phone anxiety and generally don’t like people. I don’t know when this happened or why or even how. Once I am out socializing I do ok…but I find that I nervous over talk, I hear myself and think “oh man just stop”… but I just can’t.
Growing up I had a large group of friends, we all grew up together. I was in the “in” crowd. I loved meeting new people and parties and large groups. When I went to University I was the only one from my group that went. I met Ninja there so it wasn’t like I didn’t meet new people but generally I kept my headphones on and motored to my next class and while in class I did my work… so I guess I lost my skill to make friends. I was always very friendly at work but having worked in restaurants for years, I make a conscience decision to NEVER hang out with coworkers outside of work. I have only ever seen trouble come of this. It is nice to be pleasant and show up to a work party or 2 but NEVER make it a habit. So nope, no friends from University or work.
Since I moved to Penticton I have actually tried. I thought if I join groups I will eventually meet people with similar likes and interests. I immediately joined the library group for infants (HoneyBear was only 9 months at the time). That’s when I realized that small town ladies have big time cliques  There was one lady, I now call her The Leader. She held court at library group. You could tell she and all her friends had babies together and they all wear lululemon and talk about utter nonsense. We still go to the library but the only person that I like is the children’s librarian and the other staff except Geraldine… I am sure there will be a post about her at some point so I will not elaborate on her right now lol.
I joined the Board for the Children’s Festival. But there was only 1 woman on the board with kids!!!! Seriously? I signed HoneyBear up for different classes in hopes of meeting the moms… they come with their mom groups and don’t talk to me. I try but I never get past the initial interjections. Hmmmm. I even go to the park and think hey that woman looks my age and her kid is my kid’s age, I take out the bubbles and I become the Pied Piper!!!! All the kids flock to me and the Moms thank me and go sit and talk to each other or go onto their cells!!! WTH?
I have met one lady. Our daughters were in gymnastics together. She is pretty great and her husband is super nice and Ninja likes them too! SCORE!
So when I heard about The Ultimate Blog Party, I thought THIS is perfect for me! I can hop through people’s blogs and meet new people PLUS I get to see other’s ideas and recipes!
Here at my blog I like to share my daily experiences. Sometimes they are reflective, or funny, or sad, or sometimes they are just plain sarcastic, I love doing crafts, knitting, baking, cooking, sewing and adventuring.
I think this is an awesome way to hear how other mommies spend their days, and who knows maybe I will meet a new friend or two!

  2. I'm glad to have found this through UBP13! I'm kind of a newb to blogging, but I'm loving it so far. I'm an educator (for what seems to have been an eternity), former foster parent (for kids with emotional, physical, and mental disabilities) and adoptive dad of two kiddos with special needs. It's been great reaching out, talking to, and hopefully helping other families! My whole blog is all about learning to learn and helping families succeed using brain-based practices. Come check it out. I think you will like it! http://www.wiselearners.com
