Are you going to vote?
Obviously that was a rhetorical question because OF COURSE YOU ARE!
I am not going all political here; I just want to stress the importance of getting out there and voting! I have heard about strategic voting and read a bit about it. I don’t know what is right but I personally believe that,
1. You MUST vote. It is our duty and our right. It is an honor to be able to vote. Our ancestors fought for our ability to do so and there are so many across the world that are still not able to. So please, VOTE!
2. VOTE for who you believe in. Vote with your heart, vote with your mind but don’t vote because it is a game to make someone else lose. That is NOT the democratic way. Don’t skew the votes that way. Vote for the person/party that will lead our amazing country to the brightest future.
That’s all.
When I was a kid I voted for reform/Canadian alliance/PC.
Whatever. I don’t want to talk about it.
In my mid 20’s I began voting liberal. The problem I had was the leader/leaders. I hated Chrétien and Martin. I also firmly believe that when one party is in power too long they will inadvertently or blatantly do bad.
In my 30’s I began voting for the Green party.
I like Elizabeth May. I wish she would clean up a bit better but I really don’t give a shit how she looks because I like her platform. I like what she stands for.
Do I think she could run this country? No way in hell.
Do I think other countries would take her or our government serious? Nope.
But she… or that party needs a voice at the table. I think environmental issues need to be addressed and I think that it is the future. There is money to be made there as well. My old boss used to say I was the most capitalist tree hugger he had ever met LOL
This year however things for me have changed. I still hope the Green party get seats but, especially in my riding, my Green Party vote has always been a wasted vote. This year I have found a leader that I like out of the major 3 parties.
That has always been important to me.
I really liked Jack Layton.
In fact, the day after he died I had to go to City Hall for something. HBear was young, almost 4, she had just started reading. I remember going to the desk to get a form and turning around and seeing HBear standing at a whiteboard reading his most memorable quote.
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

It was beautiful. Every worker at City Hall stopped and watched her, she struggled a bit with the words but it was amazing to see the next-generation speaking them.
A few odds and ends…
- The other day I asked SBean “what’s your name?” And she said “Sydney” so I said “what’s your middle name?” And she said “Bean!” LOL
- Speaking of Bean as a middle name, I PVRed the new Kurt Cobain documentary. Nirvana was a huge part of my childhood/teenage years. I am kind of scared to watch it.
- This week both of our PVR’s went down. We figured out the besides our cell phones the next biggest thing to impact our lives by going away is the PVR LOL pathetic. So I had promised HBear the Halloween baking show before bed, she was devastated when there was no TV LOL I said “why don’t you go get a deck of cards?” So she ran and got her deck of cards and we played war. While we played three things stood out to me,
1. My daughter knows the words to Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire. I know this because when she took my aces she began singing “Mommy’s going down in a burning ring of fire, down down down and the flames get higher.” LOL
2. She asked me “Mommy why don’t people who are at war using guns just stop and play this instead? It would be a lot safer and a lot kinder.” HBear for Prime Minister!
3. I’m pretty sure with a little bit of work my six-year-old could count cards. When I told her “Darling I got all the aces you’re Dunzo” LOL (yeah that’s how I play cards with my 6-year-old daughter) LOL anyways, she quickly replied “I still have a king and two jacks in my pile… I just need to win a few battles to win the war!” Lol
- SBean started soccer this weekend! She is a little itty bitty out there! HBear had her first taste of sitting on the sidelines while her sister played. Uh Oh. LOL SBean has done it so many times over the past 3 years. Some days I think she gets up and gets dressed just to go tag along with me as we do driving, hot lunch, watching activities and shop for HBear! In the long run though they will both have to learn to support each other from the sidelines and I think that is a great lesson to learn J
- Go Jays! We have always been Jays fans. I am lucky to say that I have seen them play live 5 times! It is harder here on the West because they start so early but we still manage to watch a few games. This year we got to see them live in Seattle. If they win, we can say we saw them the year of the championship. I still remember exactly what I was doing when they won in 1992! I was at The House. An underage dance club that served whip cream and rootbeer shots when they won! LOL
- Seriously, some people lose their mother’s to lung cancer, years after they quit smoking and some people live through massive overdoses of cocaine and debauchery. Is it just me or does anyone else think God must be a Kardashian fan?
- What is with the music in Grey’s Anatomy? It totally blows goats!
- Tonight Dad and Ninja are in Vancouver watching the Canucks vs. Oilers game! I hope McDavid puts on as good of a show as he did last night! Sorry Dad J
- For our Girl’s Day we play dohed, painted, picnicked, made a Ghost Mobile and had coffee with Grandma and Grandpa! French Toast with berry compote for dinner and cupcakes for dessert! The girls know when I am outnumbered but today they went easy on me lol and we had a FANTASTIC day!
We had an AH-MAZING turkey for Thanksgiving. I froze some of the meat and this week I am making Turkey Enchiladas! Last week however, I used up some Thanksgiving extras by making, breakfast!
I had extra puff pastry, mushrooms, Gruyere cheese and of course turkey! My Brother loved it and asked for the recipe… so here it is!
Turkey, Bacon, Gruyere Puff Pastry Pockets
Adapted from Recipegirl
1 pkg Puff Pastry, thawed
6 slices bacon
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
3 tablespoons chives, chopped
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1 1/2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 1/2 cups chopped cooked turkey
1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
1 large egg, whisked
Preheat the oven to 400
Line a large baking sheet with a silpat mat.
In a medium skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove to paper towels to drain, then crumble. Remove all of the bacon fat from the skillet except for 1 tablespoon.
Add the mushrooms and onions to the skillet and saute over medium heat until softened. Stir in cream, Dijon and season with salt & pepper. Cook until reduced slightly and thickened. Set aside to cool a bit.
Cut each sheet of Puff Pastry into 4 equal squares. Divide the mushroom mixture between 4 squares. Top with turkey, bacon and cheese. Roll out each of the remaining Puff Pastry squares so they’re a little bit larger (or just use your fingers to press and stretch them). Place the second piece over the top of each with filling. Use a fork to seal the edges to form “pockets.”
Brush each square with egg and use a fork to poke a few holes in the top for steam to escape while baking. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
