This past week HBear was in Sailing/Art Camp. I dropped HBear off at the Summerland Sailing Club every morning. They did sailing for the first half of the day and art & science for the afternoon. There was an elderly woman that was there every morning. She may be the owner of the sailing club but she’s definitely involved somehow. On Wednesday it was pirate day so HBear was wearing her pirate hat. When I pulled up I noticed that nobody else was dressed up. When we got out I watched her carefully to see what she would do. She began walking up to the group of kids, she left her bag and her life jacket in the van so I grabbed them and followed after her, watching closely. All of a sudden the older woman said, “oh look a pirate!” If HBear wanted to take off her hat she no longer had that option because everybody was looking at her. Oddly enough although HBear loves dancing and performing for people, she hates being the centre of attention.

Then the old lady turned to me and said, “you know, Pirates carry their own gear.” I was taken aback. Every day at school HBear carries her own backpack. Actually it has become a joke between HBear’s PSBesty and I LOL whenever I pick her up from school the first thing she does is hand me her backpack and I drop it and tell her to carry her own bag. LOL

This time, I replied, “I agree but I’m just giving her a little help today.”

She then said, “you’re not helping her you know! By doing it for her.”

I looked at all the children sitting at the picnic table with big wide eyes following everything we were saying. I said, “I am aware of that but I was being nice to my daughter because I was proud of how quickly she got all of her chores done this morning.”

She looked at HBear and asked, “what kind of chores do you do?”

HBear began stammering out “well, I made my bed and I put away my dishes and…”

The old lady interrupted her and said, “those aren’t chores! Those are things you should do to help your family out.”

I gave her a great big smile and said, “can I talk to you over here for a second please?

I mean no disrespect when I say this but I am paying good money for my daughter to come here and for you to teach her how to sail. I am not paying that money to come here to be insulted and told how to parent. I would prefer it if you kindly minded your own business.”

She harrumphed and spun on her heel and walked away from me.

I was fuming.

Over an hour later my WpgBesty called me while I was shopping at Walmart and I was still fuming LOL!

I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised I was there the morning prior and I was talking to one of the other Moms and she was telling me all about her daughter’s wonderful experience at our local French school. The older lady walked up, listened for a minute and said, “you know what the problem is with those French people? They are all entitled!”

Omg?! 😳

On Thursday my SIL texted me and said, “hey why don’t you drop SBean off tomorrow morning so you can have the morning to yourself. Take some time for just you, you don’t get enough of it.” I was like, “seriously?” I then got giddy excited LOL

So, Friday morning rolled around and I dropped off SBean at Grandma and Grandpa’s to play with JQ and then I took HBear to sailing.

I looked at the clock, 8:50 AM.

What do I do now? All of a sudden all the things I thought I had to do were completely gone from my head. I sat there and watched HBear for a while and then realize I had been sitting there for a half an hour. LOL so I drove home. I went to the bathroom. I didn’t have to go to the bathroom I just thought it would be nice to go the bathroom without being interrupted. All the laundry was done, the bathrooms were cleaned, I had just vacuumed but I looked around and thought, I guess I could vacuum again. Really?

So I went to the bank. While I was in the van I listened to some Eazy-E because really? Can’t do that with kids in the van LOL.

What a weird feeling to have time to myself. 3 hours of no kids? I began thinking about Preschool. SBean will be gone 3 mornings a week! All of a sudden this dreadful cold feeling washed over me. OMG I am going to have 9 hours a week to myself?!?!?!

Why do I feel panic instead of glee? I will have to digest this and think this over really hard and get back to you on that one.

I made this dinner a while back and we loved it. OK my family loved it, I don’t eat fishies 🙂 The noodles were alright. I have difficulty with sesame noodles… they are so… sesamey lol But these were the best sesame noodles I have had in a while so I thought I would share them with you… in case you like sesame-y noodles 😉

Honey Garlic Salmon
Adapted from Easy Delicious Recipes

4 salmon filets
Salt
Black Pepper
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon warm water
1 1/2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon oil
3 cloves garlic, pressed
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Season the surface of the salmon with salt and black pepper. (I used Epicurean Lemon Pepper Sansel) Set aside.

Mix the honey, water, apple cider vinegar, and a pinch of salt together. Stir to combine well.

Heat up a skillet with the oil. Pan-fry the salmon until half done.

Add the garlic into the pan until slightly browned.

Add the honey mixture and lemon juice into the skillet, reduce the sauce until it’s sticky.

Sesame Noodles with Broccoli & Almonds
Adapted from Gimme Some Oven

1 box uncooked pasta (any noodles, such as rice noodles, soba noodles, lo mein noodles, I used spaghettini)
1 tablespoon peanut oil (or vegetable oil)
1 cup broccoli, chopped into florets
1 cup cauliflower, chopped into florets
4 cloves garlic, pressed
salt and pepper
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1 batch Sesame-Soy Vinaigrette (see below)

Sesame-Soy Vinaigrette
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Whisk all sauce ingredients together until combined. Set aside.

Cook noodles al dente in a large stockpot of salted water according to package instructions. Drain, and set aside.

As the pasta is cooking, heat oil in a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the cauliflower, almonds and broccoli florets and season with a few pinches of salt and pepper. Saute, stirring once a minute or so, for 4-5 minutes until cooked through.

Stir in the garlic and continue sauteing for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the garlic is cooked and fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.

When the pasta is drained, return it to the large stockpot, and stir in the cooked broccoli and garlic, almonds, and sauce until everything is evenly combined.

(This dish is also awesome when served chilled.)

This past week was pretty busy! As I said, HBear LOVED sailing lessons! She was skeptical but ended up loving it! The weather wasn’t the best but the kids were eager and didn’t complain at all.

The second day I popped by to drop off her rain jacket and caught her pushing her little boat into the lake and sailing… all by herself! So proud!

The girls’s did some reading with Ninja and Dad 🙂

and HBear brought home some beautiful crafts!

While HBear was sailing, we visited with JQ! The kids get along SO well 🙂

On Wednesday HBear and I were guests on Ninja’s podcast! HBear chose the theme, albums with numbers in the title. She picked 1989 by Taylor Swift! She was awesome! She was so excited and she spoke so clearly. She was a great little guest and asked fabulous questions! Seriously, super proud of my little girl!

This week SBean did painting and yoga…

and HBear sailed across the lake to Naramata to get ice-cream!

The Girls have been getting along so well! Colouring an playing games. I feel like I have been waiting for so long for them to be able to play with each other without screaming, crying, and taking things away from each other… it is so nice to see them now. My heart is bursting with love and pride.

I honestly can’t get over the weather so far this summer. I feel so bad for people that spent money to come here and enjoy our Okanagan sun. It has been nonexistent the summer. This weekend was Ninja’s birthday. We had rented a pontoon boat for Father’s Day remember? The manager was so upset with his mistake he allowed us to rebook so I picked Ninja’s birthday. I thought it worked out better as Father’s Day was rainy and cold. Plus, Ninja’s sister and JQ could join us as well! Although it wasn’t raining… it was still chilly. Not the experience I was ideally hoping for, but a great one nonetheless.

And Dad and I got him… a PlayStation 4!

I will definitely have more time for the blog now that the TV’s official use is to play Unchartered 🙂
Happy Birthday My Love! You are like a fine wine…. you just get better with age!

I had a wonderful week and this summer is officially under way!
