This week on our podcast we talked a little bit about my blog! I thought it would only be fair to tell you a little bit more about my other hobby, How Was Your Week, Honey?
A few years ago Ninja came in contact with his long-lost cousin Diamond Dave. They had not spoken in a while and so Ninja asked him, “what have you been up to?” Well, he could not stop gushing about his latest hobby… Podcasting. Ninja and I had kinda heard of podcasting and had checked a few out ourselves because while I was on mat leave with HBear I started listening to parenting podcasts. Unfortunately at that time I was using my iPod and every time I wanted to update the episodes I had to plug it in to my computer. For a new Mom with baby brain that just didn’t work for me LOL so I quickly went back to listening to my old school music playlist.
Ninja however began listening to his cousin’s latest adventures. We were surprised to find out that Ninja’s Uncle, Triple D was also into the podcast scene! Soon after on one of our trips to Calgary, we met up with DD and Ninja did his first podcast. He was hooked 😂. He began chatting with DD’s podcasting buddies and found that he had a lot in common with so many of them! It also brought him closer to his family and Ninja and his Uncle soon began recording their own podcast, Our Liner Notes! Great name hey? Of course I can’t take credit for it… Actually I can 😉. The premise of their show was to re-introduce albums to anyone that was missing them. Ninja and his Uncle, Triple D are big into music and each week they had a theme and they would each bring 5 songs from 2 separate albums that fit the theme. They discussed their memories regarding the songs and the albums and pass along little known facts about the bands. For the next year they kept busy recording usually once a week. I could tell Ninja was invested.
Sometimes Ninja and Triple D would have guest on! In December 2015 I was invited on Episode 5: Merry Maier Xmas to share my favourite Christmas album! I was hooked 😂
After Triple D began a work schedule that took him around the world, Ninja found that he had to find more guests to fill-in if he wanted to continue recording. I was more than happy to oblige! Together we did Episode 7: Mr. and Mrs So-Cal and then we did Episode 33: Family By Numbers with HBear!
While I was away for 11 days in Cochrane helping my Sis when CabbagePatch was born, we would talk every night. Every night I said, “how was your day, Honey?”
In time, I became part of Ninja’s podcast circle and we hopped on the Our Liner Notes coattails and recorded Episode 56: A Shameless Plug.
That’s another thing, we have met people from all over the world! Ninja has done a podcast with a fella from England, watches CFL games via Skype with his Besty from Pennsylvania, and we get new musical options from our friends in LA! These are people that listen to our podcast and Twitter their thoughts to us, or DM us for a more in-depth conversation. We get to talk about the American economy and political landscape. We get to talk about different sports and different college experiences. We have met people with different religions and even some that like soccer 😳. In the past year and a half we have made so many new friends and have been introduced to so many new ideas and thoughts, I can honestly say it has been life-changing.
Another aspect of podcasting that has changed things is the fact that we now have one day a week that we dedicate to hanging out with each other. In the past there were so many times when we said, “why don’t we go out for a drink and just sit and chat?” Or “Let’s go to a movie?” Or how many times we would we go for days only discussing the kids, the plan, or the list. You know what list I’m talking about LOL the list of things we need to get done! Now, we have a dedicated time to just talk about us! Yes, we discuss the kids because well let’s face it, they say the funniest shit 😂 but most the time we are just… Talking… To each other… About grown up things and I have to say, it’s great! We laugh, a LOT! It honestly feels like dating each other again. Who knew there were so many things about him that I didn’t know yet?
We usually record Friday or Saturday evening. In the winter we record in the garage and in the summer we podcast by the fire in the backyard. Sometimes we sip on water or tea and sometimes we have an adult drink or 2. Sometimes we get hammered and sometimes we do crazy shooter challenges and get super hammered 😂. All in all we have a fantastic time and we hope our listeners do too! We encourage anyone and everyone to share their opinions via Twitter, Facebook, or email! You can find our podcast on iTunes or Stitcher at How Was Your Week, Honey? or Chris’s at Our Liner Notes. You can reach me on Twitter @kmaemaier or Ninja @ChrisMaierBC or the show @HWYWHoney or Ninja’s show @olinernotes. You could also email us at hwywhoney@gmail.com!
So there you have it! A little bit about why we have a podcast, what we talk about, where to find us and what it means to us!
*Disclaimer* While my blog is usually PG our podcast is definitely rated E for explicit. It is an adult show and not meant for children’s ears.
I’m already thinking about busy work/schoolnight dinners. I thought back to what I ate ate as a kid. I remembered Hamburger Helper 😳. By changing the ground beef to ground turkey and adding some veggies I made a healthier and WAY tastier version of an easy old meal!
Homemade Turkey Helper
Adapted from Countryside Cravings
NUTRITION: 493 Calories/serving
1 pound ground turkey
1 small onion, chopped
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon parsley
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups beef broth
2 cups uncooked macaroni
1 can tomato sauce
1 cup cheese, shredded
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the ground beef, onion, bell pepper, paprika, parsley, garlic powder, cayenne powder, and season with salt and pepper.
Stir in the milk, broth, macaroni and tomato sauce. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until pasta is tender.
Stir in cheddar cheese until melted.
This week the Girls were in their 2 “can’t wait for” camps! HBear was at her dance studio for Acro/Musical Theatre camp and SBean was at The Penticton Art Gallery for Outer Space Art Camp!
I took time to relax by myself for the 1st time this week. I got a pedi, a wax, and went shopping for some new fall clothes!
On Friday HBear’s dance camp put on a little recital! It was awesome! They surprised the kids with super awesome face painting and they all looked and danced amazing!
The next day we sent her a thank you note!
