Father’s Day Gift Guide & Honey Lime Chicken Sandwiches with Slaw

He may say he doesn’t want anything, but, trust us, he does.

I am obsessed with the blog Half Baked Harvest. I have followed her for years and I’ve used her recipes numerous times in my own blog but this past birthday my Sis bought me her cookbook. I kind of groaned and said, “you can just go on her blog and save a tree you know.” 😂 For the second time in less than a month, I need to apologize to my Sis. I’m sorry. You were right. As a person that loves to hold the book in my hand and still can’t get down with an E-Reader, I’m surprised it took me this long to realize… I love cookbooks. Seeing the beautiful pictures of food and reading her stories about the recipes, has sent me down the rabbit hole of all things Half Baked Harvest. Did you know that she has 7 brothers and sisters and one of them is Red Gerard? Yeah! The snowboarder! What a amazing set of parents to raise all of these successful and happy children! Her Mom looks amazing! Apparently she does to 2-2 minute planks a day!

That’s why I’m challenging my Facebook fitness group to do planks for the month of June! 😂 If you would like to join our Facebook Fitness Challenge Group, come on over! It’s called No Shame Exercise Group and every day I will challenge you to something completely doable! We do fitness challenges, self-love challenges, and yoga challenges!

Anyways, I saw the Half Baked Harvest Cookbook on so many Mother’s Day lists. You know how influencers and bloggers put out their 10 best gifts to get your Mom for Mother’s Day lists? Yeah, I should have listened! 😂 Apparently my Sis did though so, thank you!

Now, I want to help YOU! Father’s Day is coming up! I asked Ninja his personal opinion on the 10 best gifts that the has received, so that I can help you out if you’re still struggling to find the perfect gift for your husband, father, grandfather, boyfriend, or baby daddy 😉. Ninja was happy to give me a list, and in no particular order of some of his favourite gifts! Thank you Ninja for writing such wonderful write ups about each of these awesome products 😘. I have linked each picture to my affiliated account on Amazon if you feel like one of these items might be perfect for that special guy in your life! Also, if you don’t think any of these items are a match, you can still help support by shopping through my Amazon link at the top of the HoneyBears & SyndeyBeans homepage to buy the gift that fits for your man, and I will still receive a small commission… win win!! 💛

Method Men Body Wash:

I love Method products for men. Made with natural plant based ingredients, free from animal testing and packaged with recycled materials – so it’s perfect for the environmentally conscientious. I also enjoy the various scents made just for guys – pleasant and refreshing, but not over powering! Plus Kristin LOVES how I smell after a shower!

Having sold my turntables almost 2 decades a go, I had a large vinyl collection collecting dust in the storage closet. This little record player is a great way to break out the old records again. Less expensive and smaller than a direct drive turntable, it fits neatly on a small shelf, and looks cool with it’s velvet interior. While it has a small built in speaker, it’s easily hooked up to your home theater/ stereo system vie cables or even better, by Bluetooth for much bigger sound delivery.

Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells:

We don’t have a ton of space in the house for work out equipment, so a large home gym is just not a practical option for us. These adjustable dumbbells solved that problem. Small, and easy to store, adjustable from 5 to 52.5 lbs. they’re the best exercise equipment I’ve ever had – they’ve also gotten the most use 😆. A bit of investment initially, but compared to the cost of buying weights individual, not to mention the room to keep them all, the price is worth it!

Some people love jewelry, some people collect shoes, me? I love watches. Problem is, I had no where to put them so I just kept them in their original boxes and crammed them in the corners of my sock drawer or left them laying around my night stand. A watch box is the perfect solution. Now I have a cool looking display case that not only keeps and organizes my watches, but shows them off as well!

ToiletTree Products Ultimate Fogless Shower Bathroom Mirror:

I spent years and years shaving AFTER I showered. Then Kristin told me about fog less shower mirrors and it changed my shaving experience for ever! Shaving a hot, wet face is so much better than a dry cold one! Using suction cups to stick to the shower wall, it’s super easy to set up. Just fill the mirror portion with hot shower water when you want use it and never have to shave dry skin again. It evens comes with two razor holders for both Kristin and I, plus a little squeegee (which I didn’t discover for months LOL) slid into the bottom. Kristin loves that she no longer has to clean little hairs out of the sink after I’ve finished, cleaning out the sink 😂.

I love my air fryer! I was late to the game in getting one, but I can’t imagine living without it now that I’ve got one. As a food reheater, it’s second to none. No more soggy or tough microwave left overs, the air fryer brings my food back to life – especially pizza! Also great for fast cooking of fries, wings, spring rolls etc without having to heat up your entire oven. This particular unit also comes with a rotisserie function for perfect hashbrowns or even cooking a small chicken!

This kit solved all my drilling needs – which I didn’t know I needed until we built our home. Now I use them all the time. One impact driver and one larger standard drill, they fulfill every drilling job I have. For cordless (especially compared to what I was using prior) these drills are incredibly powerful, come with two batteries, and charge really quickly. They even come with a carrying case for easy toting and storage.

A cordless trimmer is a must for any guy and I’m no different. Useful for beard trims, side burns, and since I passed the age of 40, I also use it for eyebrows, ears and my nose. Cordless makes it so easy to use and travel with and it keeps a charge forever. I think I’ve only had to charge it twice in the last year!

As a guitar player in bands in my youth, guitar playing as a hobby continues for me to this day. Having collected a number of guitars over the years, there comes a point where having them laying around the house, in closets, in corners, on a chair just doesn’t work anymore. Let alone what the kids do to them! These guitar hangars are the perfect solution. I found them quick and easy to install. Not only did it get my guitars off the floor, it turned them into wall art. It also makes them more convenient to access to play and put away.

One of my favourite surprise gifts! Something I wasn’t expecting, but I loved the idea of getting something fun that took me back to my childhood. As a puzzle lover, I always enjoy something to build, but even better it’s even cooler to display. For me, it was also a memento of one the best vacations we took together. Every time I look at that LEGO brick skyline, I think back to our amazing New York trip!

Check out How Was Your Week, Honey? Episode #278: Family Fun HERE! This week, we are joined by my Sis, Kari & our BIL, Seb! Topics: bikinis, sex on the brain, Ancestory, Lenny’s escape, camping, Thermoflask, staying with family, 90’s movie music.

This weekend we had my Sis and family over! I only had 1 meltdown! 😆 For real though, I knew socializing, a few drinks, getting dinner ready and not having “breaks” was going to be a killer. It wasn’t as bad as I feared though so that is a WIN! I thought about doing this chicken breast slow cooker recipe but buying precooked rotisserie chickens was easier for me… so that’s what we did! Ninja shredded that chicken and we tossed in the sauce and reheated for about 30 minutes. I bought a bag of broccoli slaw and cabbage slaw and we mixed them with the vinaigrette and Sis and BIL brought fresh buns, VOILA!

Also, I replaced the olive oil with the Persian Lime Olive Oil that I received in a lovely basket from my Girlfriends! It really brought out the lime flavour of the dish. Thank you Ladies 💛. Of course olive oil would work just as well for the vinaigrette.

Honey Lime Chicken Sandwiches with Slaw
Adapted from Sweet Peas and Saffron

1 bag of coleslaw
¼ cup cilantro, chopped
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon honey
¼ teaspoon dijon mustard
½ teaspoon sesame oil
4 buns

½ cup honey
¼ cup chicken stock
2 limes, juiced
6 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon salt
4-5 chicken breasts (I used 2 precooked rotisserie chickens)

Whisk together 1/2 cup honey, chicken stock, lime juice, garlic, salt and chicken in the bottom of a slow cooker. (I used precooked chicken so I put the chicken and sauce in the oven for 35 minutes at 350).

Cook on low for 3-4 hours.

Remove chicken from slow cooker and shred with two forks.
Add shredded chicken back into the slow cooker and toss with cooking sauce.

Mix white wine vinegar, olive oil, 1 teaspoon honey, dijon mustard, and sesame oil. In a large bowl, combine the slaw, cilantro, and dress with vinaigrette.

Top each bun with around ½ cup of pulled chicken and cabbage slaw.

This was a rough week. Both of the Kids caught colds last weekend and they were both home all week. HBear finally went back to school on Thursday and was able to attend her Jazz Band: Jazz in the Park performance on Friday evening. We celebrated her awesome show with the new episode of Obi-Wan-Kenobie. Oliver was happy to see Lenny 😂, Sis and I introduced HBear to her first “scary movie” Final Destination 😆 and Ninja and BIL took the young ones to Jurassic Quest at the SOEC. On Sunday HBear & SBean went to a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. They got a fun picture taken of their dance friend group. I can’t wait to see it! HBear performed in the 2nd annual Songs & Scenes that afternoon. It was so great to see all those brave kids get up and act and sing and do monologues 💛. Ninja made us a great Sunday dinner to celebrate another great weekend ðŸ’›.
