What’s a soup kitchen? – Paris Hilton

A couple of months ago I read about a lady in the States that dropped off her kids at school and then went missing.
She was a great Mom so everybody knew something bad had to have happened to her. A typical soccer mom from Boston or something, her picture looked like a well maintained middle aged Mom.
13 years later she turned herself in… in Florida.
She had dropped off her kids, went to the park and began crying about her life. A few drifters started talking to her and asked if she wanted to go with them. She said yes. She had been living on the streets, she was missing her teeth and she looked like she was an addict or something.
I couldn’t believe how any Mother could do that. What was so bad?
Which brings us to today.
Maybe that woman had 2 sick kids that wanted to scream and cry ALL day no matter what you did for them.
Maybe that woman had family photos coming up and couldn’t fit into 1 pair of pants that don’t have an elastic waistband.
Maybe that woman had blisters and cracks all over her nipples that hurt so bad she felt like crying every minute of the day.
Maybe that woman realized that tomorrow… was going to be just like today.
Or maybe… she was off her meds J

In all seriousness, how could a woman do that? Even covered in snot, bleeding nipples and all my fatness… nothing could make me do that, unless of course it was Joshua Jackson offering to whisk me away and not to Florida but maybe to Cabos LOL

BUT, it was a shitty day. So I did what any woman would do… I made soup.
Well, not soup actually, but broth, so I can make soup tomorrow.
Isn’t that what YOU would do? J

Turkey Broth
1 turkey carcass
1 onion
2 leeks, just the dark greens
2 cloves garlic
1 stalk of celery
large bunch parsley
fresh sage leaves
Fresh thyme
Fresh rosemary
2 chicken bouillon squares
3 bay leaves

Place carcass in a large stockpot with other ingredients, I smash the garlic and cut the veggies into big pieces. Cover with water.

Over a medium heat, bring just to a boil. Turn burner down to just low. Skim any foam or scum that may settle at the top. Simmer for four to five hours. If the bones start to stick out of the water, add just enough boiling water to cover them up.

Put a strainer over a BIG bowl. Pour the stock through the strainer, catching any bones or vegetables. Remove any fat that forms on the surface layer. Strip the bones of all meat!!

Beef Broth
5 lbs beef soup bones
2 carrots, cut into large pieces
2 medium onions, unpeeled, cut into quarters.
3 stalks celery, cut into large pieces
6 sprigs of fresh thyme
2 cloves of garlic, smashed, with skin on
1 Tablespoon salt
10 peppercorns
5 sprigs fresh parsley
1 bay leaf
2 beef bouillon squares
water
Roast soup bones, carrots and onion at 450 for 1 hour, stirring and turning every 15 minutes.

Drain fat from pan.

Add soup bones, carrots and onions to stock pot along with remaining ingredients.

Fill with water until everything is covered.

Put a strainer over another BIG bowl. Pour the stock through the strainer, catching any bones or vegetables. Remove any fat that forms on the surface layer.

When I picked up HBear from school it was sunny and beautiful out. Of course I had my camera so I took a few pictures in between nose wipes LOL

I am a very lucky lady J
