I was raised to be a very intelligent housewife. – Liz Phair

When I was younger you would not have caught me dead in a kitchen. I was against “womanly” chores LOL

My Mom feared I would never have a family and be a “good wife”. Wow, how 1950’s does that sound?

Anyways, I had a shaved head, listened to punk music and wore long johns to school instead of Guess Jeans. Believe it or not, I still had friends lol.
Cooking was lost on me. When I moved out my Mom bought me The Joy of Cooking. I used it as a doorstop until I traded it in at the bookstore.
Now… I love cooking. I find it my “me time”. Ninja bought me The Joy of Cooking for our 1st Anniversary. He inscribed it beautifully,

I love that book. I try not to even crack the spine when I open it LOL.
My sister was the one who cooked. She had this recipe book that had a recipe I still go to as THE BEST COLD NOODLE SALAD out there! I am serious. I couldn’t find it for the longest time and I tried every pinterest salad and nothing compared to this easy recipe. I use it for a side dish, a quick lunch, a BBQ favorite and even pot lucks. Delicious! It is from here,

Tonight Dad bought some polish sausages on sale the other day so we are having BBQ sausages, cold noodle salad, baked beans and corn. Easy Peasy Mac and Cheesey!
Another thing about my childhood was that I was a good student. Well, actually I was a horrible student who got great grades J Ninja was like that too.
Before we had children we both said 1 of the things we needed to instill in them would be good study habits. We both flew through school so by the time we got to University we didn’t know how to study.
You CANNOT get good grades in University with this method… trust us, we tried.
It took me 8 years to get my Degree. I passed classes without studying but didn’t have the marks to get into the next class. I took Stats 3 times before I passed lol By Stats 2 I was PRO! LOL
I know HBear is in Kindergarten but it all starts now. Every day after school we do “homework” It may be coloring, activity books, or we mark off an activity on her activity calendar, but we do something. This is getting her into the routine of making time after school for actual homework.
We keep her 5 minute reading chart on her door and every night before bed she fills out her 60 minute challenge, reads a book, and colors her reading chart.

We keep her activity calendar on her door too and she crosses off each one as we do it. Her teacher sends a new one home every month.

This month one of the activities is to make play dough. So we have decided to incorporate this into our birthday bags! So today before dance class,

we colored and labeled each bag,

After dance class we got to work making the play dough.

Jello No Bake Play Dough

Mix 3 cups of flour with ½ cup of salt.

Mix in 1 box of jello.
Pour in 3 tablespoons of canola oil.
Pour in 1 cup of HOT water.

Stir. When it is all together take out of bowl and knead.
Make a bowl and add some glycerin. Finish up by kneading it all in.

We made Grape and Strawberry. It smells AMAZING!

I bought the tupperware at Walmart 5 for $1!

A few years ago I made play dough for HBear and my besties’ daughter for Xmas. We still have it and use it often. It smells Waaaaay better than the crappy stuff in the store plus it doesn’t dry out as easy either. Win Win!

3 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

3 green onions, chopped
When you noodles are cooked according to the package, rinse them in cold water and set aside.

Mix the peanut butter, water, hoisin, soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, and oil in a saucepan over med-high heat. Stir constantly until mixed well.

Pour over the noodles and toss. Add the green onions and put into the fridge until ready to serve.

This is good cold. This is good room temperature. This is great… the next day! So don’t be afraid to make a big batch J BTW this apparently is 4 points on the weight watchers system J
