Last week was a family week!

My SIL was in town with JQ! I love when they come to visit because we get to spend some good quality time together. We did a lot of visiting, not so much housework LOL but some good times together.

We went to the park,

SBean went to gymnastics,

We went to Grandma and Grandpa’s,

We went to FitKidz,

We went to Jumping Beans Play Cafe,

SBean’s first jellybean experience

We went to the park to visit HBear’s little friend who was visiting from Edmonton,

We had Mexican night at our house,

We went swimming,

AND to the carnival!

Lately I have been noticing that I am really missing family.

That may seem strange to some people as we live with my Dad and we live 5 minutes away from my in-laws, so we get to see family quite often. But I’m talking extended family. My Brother just had a terrible week. Last week he lost his Grandfather and his Uncle both on his Mother’s side. I wish I could see him, more often… all of the time… some of the time?

My Sister and I have a date once a week, usually Mondays. We spend 2 hours on FaceTime pissing ourselves laughing and talking.

I love those dates.

My cousins live in Calgary and Edmonton. I never realized before how much I valued my Mom’s gossip LOL. My Mom spoke with her brothers all the time and then relayed what my cousins were doing on to me, so I always knew what everybody was up to.

Now I don’t.

A few weeks ago I got this really cool email from one of my Cousins saying we read your blog all the time and we feel like we know what’s going on in your life so well and we would just like to fill you in on a little bit of what’s happening in our lives.
Best. Email. Ever.

I have one Cousin in Edmonton that just built a brand-new house, another Cousin in Edmonton who is pregnant with her first son, another Cousin in Calgary in nursing school and she has her first boyfriend! I also have two Cousins in Calgary that are both getting married this summer.

That’s a lot of news! I have been trying to text, Facebook, email my Cousins more often because without my Mom here our relationships will just fade off… And I don’t want that to happen.

Just another thing that SUCKS about my Mom being not here.

So, today was a pretty busy day LOL. That tends to happen after a long weekend and a week long visit from family. You know, you have catch up on life because the holidays are unfortunately over 🙁

This morning HBear came into our bedroom a bit after 6 saying that there was a loud noise in her room making a whir whir whir whir noise… I turned over.

When I finally crawled out of bed at 20 after 7 I did a few stretches and took a big deep breath because it was GO time.

After making lunches and getting the girls dressed, hair done and teeth brushed it was into the van to drop HBear off at school. We then had to stop at Staples to pick up labels for hot lunch on Friday, then it was off to Superstore for weekly grocery shopping. This was actually a great stop because we all know the bakery gives away that free cookie LOL and it came just at the right time!

We quickly had enough time to run home and drop off the groceries and at least get the milk in the fridge before it was off to the pediatricians. SBean has follow-up appointments as she refuses to eat meat and therefore has a bit of an iron issue.  Back in the van and we stopped at BA Robinson to pick up a new light bulb. That’s right my incredibly hard bulbs to find went out in our ensuite on Good Friday! That means no light in my bathroom for three days *groan*!

So I quickly ran in and got a new light bulb (a being the key here as they only had 1 in stock! The perks of living in a small town lol) and then we were off to the lab to get SBean’s blood tested. I looked at the time and oh no we have to get going as SBean had gymnastics.

After an hour of spider crawls, trampoline jumping and balance beams it was home for lunch. While SBean ate lunch I got the rest of the groceries put away and got set up for my PAC meeting in 20 minutes LOL.

Just as I got SBean down the chair of the PAC got to our house for a quick hot lunch meeting 🙂

It ended just when we had to go pick up HBear from school. We also had to stop by the gymnastic studio where I forgot my sunglasses (which were actually in my bag booooo).

When we got home it was time to start getting dinner ready because HBear has dance class soon.

What did you do today?

🙂

Thank goodness I schedule my menu around these type of days and I picked something that’s super easy for dinner tonight we are having garlic shrimp chow mein 🙂

Chow Mein
Adapted from Damn Delicious

1/3 cup soy sauce
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
1 teaspoon Oyster sauce
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1 package fresh Chow Mein noodles
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, sliced
1 bell pepper, sliced
1 bag of coleslaw
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, garlic, brown sugar, oyster sauce, ginger and white pepper; set aside.

In a large pot of boiling water, add noodles until loosened, about 1-2 minutes; drain well.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add onion and pepper, and cook, stirring often, until tender, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in slaw until heated through, about 1 minute.

Stir in noodles and soy sauce mixture until well combined, about 2 minutes.
Serve immediately.

We added sautéed garlic shrimp. 🙂
